The Mediterranean component of the European Union Water Initiative

   The European Union Water Initiative (EU-WI) represents the EU's most specific contribution to support the implementation of  the Decisions of the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) held in Johannesburg in September 2002. It stands for a common European approach to meet the challenges of water-related Millennium Development Goals. Its fundamental objectives refer to:

  •     Water supply and sanitation

  •     Integrated Water Resource Management

EUWI is a joint platform for stakeholders in the process of sustainable development of the water sector. It aims at improving efficiency by coordination of water related development aid. The reference access point for the overall EUWI can be found at  www.euwi.net .

Tangible results are produced by regional and thematic activities referred as components.
The Mediterranean Component (MED EUWI) is a regional components of the EUWI and shares its overall objectives. The MED EUWI is lead by the Greek Government.

This section aims to present the Med Component and its current developments with an overview of the EUWI to facilitate its understanding. A discussion forum has also been launched to facilitated the discussion among the Med EUWI stakeholders.
