EU Water Initiative
Components and Organisational framework
The EU Water Initiative initiative is structured around a series of crosscutting
and regional components. Besides the fundamental
objectives of the EUWI, each regional component considers other specific targets for
its particular geographic area.
The Table hereafter provides an overview of the various components and the
related lead groups (EU countries or European Commission).

in the development of the EUWI include:

Contributes to the achievement of the objectives of the EUWI: giving
advice and recommendations to the MStF SC, reviewing the implementation
of the annual work programme, disseminating information on the EUWI,
fostering exchanges of best practice between the different regional
components of the Initiative, etc. |
EU
member states, other interested European countries (Norway,
Switzerland), EC, other European Institutions and agencies (EIB, EEA),
European-wide society organisations and major networks, European water
industry (public and private operators), International financial
institutions such as World Bank, other international institutions, UN
programmes and agencies, working groups, etc.

Multi-stakeholder Steering Committee (MStF SC)
|
Agree
on a consensual basis about strategic orientations of the Initiative and
recommendations arising from guidance documents, Outline the priorities
for the following year’s annual work programme, deliver the strategic
objectives and annual work programme of the EUWI agreed upon, Adopt
practical decisions about the operating of the EUWI. |

Member States Expert Group (EG)
|
Address and resolve in internal EU issues pertinent to the achievement
of the EUWI with a view to optimising coordination of water assistance
efforts, ensure adequate links and coordination with the relevant
working parties involved in the follow-up to the EUWI.

knowledge, provide recommendations and guidelines, ensure the production

Initiative, EU member states and other interested European countries,
EC, European water industry, International financial institutions, NGOs,
local authorities. |
On request of
the participants at the 10th Multi-stakeholder Forum (Brussels, 2004-03-16), the EC is
reviewing the role and membership of the above bodies.
