Project Integrated management of the water resources, development and confrontation of methodologies common and transnational for the fight against the drought with the areas

The project MEDDMAN is a transnational approach in the field of drought and water management involving competent national authorities, leading research institutes and regional authorities. The project's target is to develop an integrated system, capable of evaluating the state of surface water and groundwater resources in the MEDOCC regions. Under the general scheme of preserving and improving the economic growth, emphasis will be given to the development of efficient tools for sustainable water resources exploitation. Special attention will be drawn to the environmental impacts of extreme meteorological and hydrological events, which affect the means of development and best interest of the locals.

Objectives
  • Improvement of the water-demand balance in the regions under drought risk.
  • Development and application of economical tools for water management in the regions facing water shortage, evaluation of the possibilities for water reuse.
  • Promotion of a transnational and inter-regional cooperation for the implementation of integrated strategies to manage water resources and combat drought.
  • Reinforcement of the regional involvement in the water resources management and mobilization activities.
  • Compilation of environmental impact studies for land degradation.

The project wants to develop an integrated system, able to evaluate the state of surface water and resources of the ground water in areas MEDOCC. Within the framework to preserve and improve the economic growth, the stressing will be put on the development of effective instruments for a durable exploitation of water resources. A special attention will be related to the environmental effects of extreme events weather and hydrological, which affect the means of existence and the interests of the inhabitants.

Results The results of the project could be reproduced on other Mediterranean zones which know problems of water management and are in catch with the risk of dryness. The project will develop common, innovating methodologies on the analysis of the hydrological data and its cycle, the procedures and potentialities of the uses of water recycled, the management integrated of the water resources and the risk management to fight the drought.
