Event The 3rd Conference on adaptation to climate change in developing countries

The last two years several Dutch humanitarian and development NGOs organised a conference on adaptation to climate change in developing countries. Goal of the conferences was to share experiences on adaptation of NGO practitioners, scientists, government officials and companies and to forward thinking on adaptation practice. By workshops focussing on themes (e.g. water, health, disasters) and regions (e.g. Africa, South-East Asia) we explored the impacts and consequences of climate change for developing countries.

This year, with Copenhagen just one and a half week away, we'll be focussing on both political issues as on the practice of adaptation in developing countries.

In the morning during the plenary session an array of prolific speakers,  including Mr Bert Koenders, Minister for Development Cooperation and Mr Herman Wijffels, will take us through issues concerning adaptation to climate change in developing countries and financing adaptation to climate change. In the afternoon participants will share their experiences in workshops on various themes concerning adaptation. The workshops are organised by different involved organisations.

The conference expects to bring together over 200 (international) NGO practitioners, government officials, representatives from business and scientists. The language of the conference is English. There will also be space to exhibit the work of your organisation/company on adaptation and climate change in a small fair. The conference will take place in the Vredespaleis, Carnegieplein 2, in The Hague, the Netherlands.

The conference is organised by the Klimaatbureau HIER in cooperation with Worldconnectors and partners united in the Millennium Agreement "Controlling Climate Risks". The conference is part of "daarbenik", the campaign of NCDO and the Klimaatbureau about climate change in developing countries. The conference is also organised in the scope of the so called Millennium Agreements; public private partnerships between non governamental organisations, business and the department of international cooperation from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs to forward the Millennium Development Goals.
