Event Workshop on Preparation and management of European R&D projects (FP7) in the area of environment & water


The Workshop is designed to maintain a high level of training activity

with permanent interaction among participants. Thus, lectures will
alternate with practical exercises in preparing proposals to put into
practice fundamental concepts and skills essential for participation in
FP7. For this, dierent learning approaches will be carried out including
participants’ discussion, groups’ practical exercises and networking
activities. These have been designed in order to provide maximum
interaction among participants and include a poster session, introduction
of participating institutions, their R&D&I expertise and outcomes, as
well as presentation of potential project ideas.
MODULE I: European Funding Opportunities for R&D
Exhibition accompanied by presentations and visuals aids, supported
by online tools to search for information and funding. Hands on session
designed to instruct course participants in how to navigate virtual
portals so as to promote their use. The consultant will aim make the
session more pleasant by encouraging participation and interest of the
attendees, opening up discussions on real cases.
MODULE II: Preparation and Management of European R&D&i
projects (FP7)
This Module is organized as a workshop, as all examples provided will be
based on situations and real cases. The session will be complemented by
the added value of a senior consultant, who through his know-how and
experience will add personal examples and experiences to make the
content easier to understand.
Each participant will receive the following documentation:
- Relevant legislation in the student’s specic area of interest. Web links
of interest and Bibliography.
- Clear and outlined manual and support literature to the course
content.
- Supporting documents to the case studies and simulations.
- Instruments and tools for calculating budgets. Practical forms for
partner searches.
This workshop has been designed based on more than 15 years experience
in the successful preparation and formulation of projects for EU
nancing. It allows for case studies and analysis of best practices
between consultants and participants. Prior to the course, participants
will be asked about their experience regarding participation in European
projects and interest programs.
The contents and case studies are tailored to participants’ concerns and
training needs, based on a needs analysis carried out prior to the course.
The knowledge acquired can be extrapolated to projects nanced by
other funding sources (national, regional, etc.)
This workshop has been organized using a non-conventional
training approach and has the basic goal of addressing the key
elements and procedures involved in the design and preparation
of projects in the Environment theme of the FP7. Besides,
additional insight in general FP7 issues as well as in other
Environment European funding programs will be provided. The
Workshop is addressed to researchers and other technical and
administrative sta usually involved in FP7 projects application
and participation. A wide spectrum of organizations working in
the environmental eld can nd here an opportunity to
improve their chances of success when applying to FP7 calls by
gaining capacity, and networking with other workshop participants.
Among participants, some have been previously
selected and invited based on their already proven research
background in dierent EU R&D&I programs. Some others
belong to organizations with a very high potential in FP7
research or are currently involved in the preparation of consortia
and proposals for the upcoming FP7-ENV call. This working
environment will provide a unique capacity building opportunity
not found in conventional courses or workshops.
Through this practical workshop, participants will acquire and
improve their knowledge and skills to prepare proposals for the
FP7. This will be addressed using dierent learning approaches
including lectures, lecturers – participants discussion, practical
exercises in groups, and networking activities. Issues as the
project idea preparation, the search and selection of suitable
partners, leading a consortium, budget design, proposal
writing, dissemination plans, and keys to a successful application,
will constitute the basic core of the workshop.
Furthermore, networking activities have been designed to
provide maximum interaction among participants and thus a
real opportunity to gather potential partners, facilitate synergies
and promote the construction of consortia. So, the workshop
is also intended to be an opportunity to build relationships
among participants and promote project proposals.
These activities include a poster session and the opportunity
for every participant to present their institutions, R&D&I expertise
and outcomes, and project ideas.
