Event Oppla Webinar - Ecosystem Services Mapping

Online presentations and discussions of the ‘state of the art’ in ecosystem services, natural capital and nature-based solutions.

The first event is taking place on Friday 20th May at 11:00 CET on the topic of ecosystem services mapping. A follow-up event will then take place on 25th May (again at 11:00 CET), exploring the practical use of ecosystem services mapping for practitioners and decision makers at local, national and European scale. Each webinar lasts for one hour and will be recorded for future release on Oppla.

The first event will feature the following guest presenters:

  • Nynke Schulp speaking about the reliability of ecosystem services mapping. Nynke works at the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam and has published a key paper on this topic. Amongst other things, she will describe how methods of ecosystem services mapping have improved in recent years.
  • Anis Guelmami speaking about improvements in earth observation for mapping ecosystem services. Anis works at the Tour du Valat and is currently working on the SWOS and the ECOPOTENTIAL projects. His presentation will reflect on the challenges of earth observation and how the frequencies and resolutions of new data might contribute to improved methods.
  • Maike Hamann speaking about the social-ecological co-production of ecosystem service bundles. Maike works at the Stockholm Resilience Center in Sweden, the Centre for Complex Systems in Transition in South Africa and currently contributes to the coordination of the Southern African Programme on Ecosystem Change and Society. In a recent paper, she applied measures of ecosystem service use at the household level to map distinct social-ecological systems.
