Event Membrane Desalination Technologies in Practice

A practical and intensive training workshop especially designed for membrane-based water desalination and purification plant operators, engineers and managers with varied levels of field experiences and industrial training.  It is also beneficial for marketing, business, finance and professionals from other industries seeking a better and practical understanding of membrane technology applications, industry and markets.  Each trainee will receive a comprehensive, workshop CD-ROM, with over 200 presentation slides, summary of practical plant O&M guidelines, technical papers, useful references and on-line resources. A printed Workbook is also provided for notes, questions and follow-ups. It is designed with web-style links, colorful graphics and illustrations for on-the-job continuing education and reference by plant operators, engineers, supervisors, consultants, vendors and others. Each workshop attendee receives a Certificate of Completion.
The MASAR workshop primarily focuses on design, operational and performances aspects of applied seawater desalination technologies utilizing reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) processes, as well as conventional pretreatment and integrated membrane filtration technologies such as ultrafiltration (UF) and microfiltration (MF). Besides the technical presentations, two 30-minute open-forum periods are being planned with active participation of experienced technical personnel from the Spanish membrane desalination industry and workshop attendees to discuss real-life experiences, RO/NF plant operational and performance problems and solutions.
 Main topics of discussion include:
• MEMBRANE PLANT DESIGN CRITERIA
 Impact of feed water sources & quality; membrane process selection & design integration.
 Comparison of traditional pretreatment and integration of UF and MF as pre-treatment for RO and NF and other hybrid systems.
• SYSTEM OPERATION MONITORING & OPTIMIZATION
 Data management; recovery ratio optimization (critical flux) & membrane additions/replacement optimization.
• SYSTEM PERFORMANCE MONITORING & EVALUATION TECHNIQUES
 Philosophy and basis of ASTM normalization & performance trending vs. real-time monitoring, fouling detection and performance evaluation.
• MEMBRANE FOULING PREVENTION & CONTROL
 Field-proven preventative techniques & practices for effective control of biological, organic and colloidal fouling; anti-fouling smart systems.
• ENERGY CONSERVATION
 Overview of energy recovery devices and thermal/membrane desalination energy consumption comparisons.
• DESALINATION ECONOMICS
 Overview of large-scale seawater and brackish water desalination plant capital and operational costs and thermal/membrane desalination cost comparisons.
• TOP 30 PRACTICAL DESIGN, OPERATION & MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES
 Summary of field-proven practices for optimal and trouble-free membrane plant design, operation and maintenance.
The day session will conclude with a period of open discussion, sharing of experiences among attendees and one-on-one questioning.
