New president for the International Scheldt Commission

Doctor Georges Pichot, head of MUMM, has been elected as president of the International Scheldt Commission for a period of 2 years, from 1st January 2007 on. This Commission manages the International Scheldt Agreement concluded in Ghent on 3rd December 2002 between France, the Netherlands, the Flemish region, the Walloon region, the Brussels Capital Region and the federal state of Belgium.
One of the most important missions is to execute the Water Framework Directive at the level of the international Scheldt basin (Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23rd October 2000 establishing a framework for Community action in the field of water policy).
