MEDA Water Programme: EU Helps Palestinians to cope with water scarcity problem. Yet, more needs to be done

The MEDA Water Programme is highlighted through the new Feature Story and Project Highlight on the EuroMed Info Centre’s website, in view of the Ministerial Conference on Water taking place in Jordan on October 29.

The new Project Highlight on our website, from EuropeAid’s Info Notes, is the MEDA Water Programme that got underway in 2003 and ends in 2008. This €40 million (MEDA) Programme reinforces regional cooperation and develops proposals on water management, through capacity strengthening, training, information and know-how exchanges.

Water shortage is a crucial problemof biggest concern for Palestinians.Oneway to deal with this crisis is adequate treatment of wastewater that would limit the deterioration of existing freshwater resources. Different partners from across the borders of Middle Eastern countries, including Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey, aimto exchange experience and come upwith innovative solutions. Each of them comes up with what seems to be more compatible to conditions in their respective countries.
