News Four new members in the FEMISE Network

The EU-funded FEMISE project for dialogue on economic and financial issues in the Euro-Mediterranean partnership has welcomed four new members who joined the network in November 2009 as active members.   A press release said the new members, who joined following a voting process of members of the Board of Directors during their semi-annual meeting, are: the Centre for Economic Research on Mediterranean Countries, Economic Department at the Akdeniz University, Turkey, which aims to contribute to the scientific cooperation of the region and the reinforcement of relations between Mediterranean countries and the integration to the EU; the European Institute, London School of Economics, UK, which provides EU-Med studies through its three focused departments; the European Documentation & Research Centre (EDRC), University of Malta, which operates as a research and teaching centre in the area of European policy studies; and the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy (IEE), Germany, which has a multidisciplinary approach to study economic, political and socio-cultural development in the countries of the South.

The FEMISE network is now composed of 84 institutes, 39 of which represent the 10 Mediterranean Partner Countries and 45 the European Union.

FEMISE is a three year EU-funded project with a budget of €4 million which aims to contribute to the reinforcement of dialogue on economic and financial issues in the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy and the Union for the Mediterranean. More specifically, it seeks to improve understanding of the priority stakes in the economic and social spheres, and their repercussions on the Mediterranean partners in the framework of their implementation of EU Association Agreements and Action Plans.
