News IGES made a presentation on “Japan-China Co-operation on Total Emission Control in China” at the “Sixth Regional Twinning Workshop on Integrated River Basin and Coastal Area Management (IRBCAM)

The Sixth Regional Twining Workshop on Integrated River Basin and Coastal Area Management (IRBCAM) was held in Dalian City (Liaoning, PRC) on 18-20 May 2011. The event was co-organised by Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) and Korea Maritime Institute (KMI), PEMSEA’s twinning secretariat. Policy makers and specialists on water quality management for river basins and coastal areas from China, the Republic of Korea, the Democratic People’s Reupublic of Korea, Indonesia and the Philippines, participated in this workshop to share good practices and experiences in planning, implementing and evaluating total pollutant reduction programs in integrated river basins and coastal areas.

IGES Beijing Office Policy Researcher Tetsuo Kuyama participated in this workshop, and delivered a presentation about Sino-Japanese co-operation on total pollutant control in China, focusing on sharing outputs and lessons from the “Water Environment Partnership between Japan and China” implemented by IGES based on the initiatives by the Japanese and Chinese governments. Comments and questions on consideration points for replication of output in other Asian countries were sought from participants. Policy makers in Asian countries are clearly demonstrating considerable interest in the outputs obtained from the Partnership project.
