News Morocco: Improving water information management

In the framework of the GIZ AGIRE programme, a wokshop held on 9 and 10 May brought together 35 representatives from Morocan water basin agencies, Ministry water department, consultancy companies and EMWIS. After extensive sessions dedicated to sharing of knowledge on past and ongoing developments, the participants outlined an action plan to support information maanagement in the water sector for the next 5 years. To benchmark the Moroccan development EMWIS introduced activities accried out by Europe with WISE, INSPIRE, ECRINS and SEIS as well as experience of other Mediterranea countries. This action plan to be supported by GIZ, will also guide the development of the National Water Information System -NWIS- for Morocco in the framework of the Union for the Mediterranean project under prepapration on" strengthning NWIS and harmonisation of data collection, towards a shared water informiton system". As part of this meeting coordination between EMWIS and GIZ in Morocco have been addressed.
