News US ambassador visits Jordan Valley water projects

Water Minister Hazem Nasser, Jordan Valley Authority Secretary General Saad Abu Hammour and US Ambassador to Jordan Alice G. Wells on Saturday visited several key water and agricultural sites in the Jordan Valley.

Wells was briefed on the history of Wihdeh Dam and the current water situation in Jordan, a US embassy statement said.

The tour also included the King Abdullah Canal, the Sharhabil Bin Hassneh EcoPark and the Hydroponic Green Farming Initiative, a three-year USAID pilot programme launched in 2013 that encourages local farmers to adopt technologies that significantly increase water productivity and lower costs.

“Seeing first-hand the innovations, challenges, and opportunities in the Jordanian agriculture sector has been very enlightening,” the statement quoted Wells as saying.
