News Arab G-WADI Network created in Muscat

The second steering committee meetings of the General Secretariat of the Arab Network for the management of water resources in arid and semi-(Arab G-WADI Network) took place in Muscat – Oman, for two days from 3-4/ June, 2015.

Representatives from the UNESCO network office in Cairo and representatives from the countries and bodies of the Arabic Network Foundation attended the meeting also includes representatives of the members of the network of countries and bodies, organizations and agencies from within and outside the Sultanate.

The opening session of the meeting was under the patronage of Eng / Said bin Nasser Al Habsi, Director General of the Directorate General of Water Resources Assessment, He well expresse at the beginning of his speech by welcoming all participants in their second Sultanate of Oman, and indicates where in his speech the importance of this meeting, which is in accordance with the statutes of the Arab network, as it is  one of the important scientific gatherings, which the founders of the network and representatives of member States and organizations involved in raising the value of the discussions and themes and ideas that come up during the meeting, which in its content discusses the most important water issues of concern to the Arab countries put experiments and studies on topics various water and that can be tapped from some countries, also he noted as well as the engineer to the importance of this meeting in terms of review and evaluation of the technical and administrative aspects of the network and because of the enrichment of the meeting and thanking also the UNESCO representative in Cairo office on the cooperation and support of this meeting and all the work of the network`s activities.

The participants discussed at the meeting items belonging to the network business in the past period and the business in the coming period and discussed topics of interest to water the Arab region in general. The meeting also discussed the coordination and administrative aspects of the network.

The network establishment was approved in 2004 based on the decision of the 15th session of the Intergovernmental Council of the International Hydrological Programme- UNESCO.

On 18 Rajab 1431 H , corresponding to 20/6/2011, network establishment was announced and its Statute was approved unanimously in UNESCO`s global network (G-WADI), in adoption to be Muscat / Sultanate of Oman –the headquarters of the network Secretariat represented by the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and water resources in the Sultanate.

First meeting of the Secretariat of (Arab G-WADI Network) was held in Muscat for two days on 28-29/1/2013 .
