Event Low cost, low tech and high quality bio-waste management in focus at CBCMed project launching conference

A range of low cost and low tech solutions to improve models of waste management, in particular municipal solid waste, will be presented during the launching conference of the project SCOW (Selective collection of the organic waste in tourist areas and valorisation in farm composting plants),funded under the Cross-Border Cooperation Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme (CBCMed)

The event, to take place in Barcelona on 12 June, will be targeted to technicians and politicians who wish to know more about the advantages of bio-waste recycling in small-scale composting plants implemented at local level.

The SCOW project addresses the challenge of increasing waste production in the Mediterranean due to population growth and development of agricultural activities. The initiative targets tourist areas where collected organic waste will be valorised as compost for farmers. The project also aims to foster new job opportunities created by the collection, transport and treatment processes of waste.  SCOW is led by the Urban Ecology Agency of Barcelona and gathers seven others actors from Italy, Malta, Palestine, Israel and France.

The ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2007/2013 is a multilateral cross-border cooperation programme funded by the European Union under the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument. It aims at reinforcing cooperation between the EU and partner countries' regions located along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
