Call for evidence - European Commission launches call for evidence on simplifying environmental legislation
The European Commission has launched a call for evidence on the simplification of administrative burden in environmental legislation, inviting stakeholders to share their views and experiences.
This initiative aims to identify opportunities to reduce administrative complexity and streamline procedures linked to EU environmental policies, while fully preserving their objectives in terms of environmental protection and public health. The proposal is expected to contribute to a more efficient regulatory framework, supporting both public authorities and economic actors, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
According to recent consultations, administrative and reporting requirements are often perceived as complex, particularly by SMEs engaging in resource efficiency and sustainability actions. The initiative therefore seeks to address key challenges such as reporting obligations, permitting processes, and digitalisation of administrative procedures, in order to make implementation faster, easier and more cost-effective.
Stakeholders from all sectors, including businesses, public institutions, NGOs, academia and international organisations, are invited to contribute to this consultation through the European Commission’s Have Your Say portal. Feedback collected will support the development of a future legislative proposal, currently planned for Q4 2025.
