The Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences of Aït Melloul (Ibn Zohr University) will host an international conference on 10–11 April 2026 dedicated to a key issue for Mediterranean territories: water sovereignty.

Entitled “Water Sovereignty in Morocco: from scarcity management to abundance management in the context of climate change and natural disaster risks”, the conference takes place in a context marked by the increasing impacts of climate change and growing challenges in water resource management.

Organised in partnership with the Master’s programmes in Environmental Law and Sustainable Development, Public Territorial Management, and the Research Laboratory in Public Law and Political Sciences, the event aims to foster dialogue between researchers, experts, and institutional stakeholders on water governance, water security, and the adaptation of public policies to climate change.

The conference will explore the necessary transition from a resource scarcity-based approach to a more integrated model capable of anticipating risks related to sudden water abundance, such as floods and other natural hazards.

In this context, several international speakers are invited to share their expertise and experience. The participation of key stakeholders from the water sector, including through remote interventions, will contribute to enriching discussions and supporting a collective reflection on sustainable water governance models.

This conference represents an important opportunity to strengthen scientific and institutional cooperation while contributing to ongoing reflections on water resilience strategies in a rapidly changing global environment.
