Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform Launch Event
to
On 21 September, the European Commission will launch the Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform at the headquarters of the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions.
Following a call for applications in Spring 2026, the Platform has assembled high-level, cross-sectoral experts and representatives from Member States to serve as members, as well as a host of international organisations to serve as observers. Together they will work with the Commission and the two Committees to support the implementation of the Water Resilience Strategy.
The Strategy, adopted in June 2025, sets out an integrated view to achieve water resilience by 2050. To achieve this, it sets three key objectives to:
- Restore and protect the water cycle
- Build a water-smart economy
- Ensure safe and affordable water and sanitation for all
Achieving these will set Europe on a path to water resilience by 2050.
The Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy, Jessika Roswall, will be present to welcome participants and give an opening statement. She will be joined by President of the European Economic and Social Committee, Seamus Boland, and Vice President of the Committee of the Regions, Carlos Moedas, who will also give high-level speeches. The three institutions will serve as co-chairs throughout the day and the entirety of the Platform's tenure.
Three dedicated sessions on the future of the Platform, the Digitalisation Action Plan for the Water Sector, and water efficiency are included in the agenda, with stakeholders expected to contribute to shaping active discussions to identify strategies for overcoming the challenges involved in operationalising these issues on an EU-wide scale.
This event is only accessible in person by invitation. However, online participation will be possible on the day through the link below.
The launch of the European Water Academy will also take place on the same day directly after the Platform meeting concludes.
Following the launch, the Platform will convene meetings twice a year, except in years when a Water Resilience Forum takes place.
