As part of the preparatory process for the upcoming UN Water Conference 2026, the United Nations organized a second global online stakeholder consultation. This initiative forms part of the official roadmap towards the Conference, which will take place in December 2026 in the United Arab Emirates and will be co-hosted by Senegal and the United Arab Emirates.

The consultation aimed to gather inputs from a wide range of stakeholders, including civil society organizations, academia, the private sector, local communities, Indigenous Peoples, and other actors engaged in water-related issues. Participants were invited to provide recommendations, share recent data, best practices, and field experiences to help strengthen the concept papers guiding the interactive dialogues that will take place during the Conference.

These contributions will help shape discussions across six key thematic areas, covering access to water and sanitation, climate resilience, international cooperation, investment in the water sector, and the integration of water into multilateral processes. The overall objective is to accelerate progress towards the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

This consultation represents an important milestone in the preparation of the Conference, reinforcing an inclusive and participatory approach to addressing global water challenges.
