The third and final annual meeting of the CRONUS Horizon Europe project took place at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Copenhagen on the 28th and 29th of May 2026, bringing together the full consortium and key external stakeholders to reflect on four years of innovation in biogenic CO₂ valorisation.

SEMIDE is leading Work Package 7 on “Integrated business & marketing concepts along the entire biofuels value chains”, and has played an active role throughout the event, both as presenter and as facilitator.

In plenary session, our team presented an overview of Deliverable 7.2 Business Plan & Exploitation Roadmap, summarising the commercial and strategic trajectories identified for each of the five Functional Prototypes. The presentation also outlined the next steps for Work Package 7, including the consolidation of exploitation pathways and the upcoming deliverable that will carry the project's results beyond its funded lifetime.

On the second day, our team also led a dedicated joint session with the FENIX project, focusing on the critical question that now shapes the future of both initiatives: what will it actually take to bring these technologies to market? The session convened regulatory leads, business and exploitation partners, pilot and industrial representatives, and end-user organisations around four structured questions: the market conditions needed for bio-based end-products to move from pilot to commercial scale; the compliance uncertainties that persist at EU and Member State level; the factors that make or break a viable business model; and the policy and market shifts that would most accelerate deployment.

The exchange produced actionable insights, and underscored that regulatory clarity, bankable business cases, and coordinated market signals must advance together if biogenic carbon solutions are to fulfil their potential in the European energy transition.

The CRONUS journey continues beyond Copenhagen, SEMIDE will be at KOS 2026 (Kos, Greece, 24-28 June), participating in the 13th International Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management, where a dedicated session for CRONUS will bring together all five Focus Pilot teams and our contribution on financing and business models for biogenic CCUS solutions.
